The Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPDA) pleads for identifying a common candidate for the presidential elections not only of the parties of the political center-right, but also of the political left. According to the deputy head of the PPDA Alexandru Slusari, this way the selected candidate will enjoy the support of a number of parties, will have more chances to win the elections and can be the President of all the people. He noted that if a candidate representing a broader political segment cannot be identified, the PPDA will accept to choose a common candidate of the pro-European parties.

In the public debate “Common candidate of the right in the presidential elections: necessity and possibility, advantages and disadvantages”, which is the 57th installment of the series “Developing political culture by public debates”, Alexandru Slusari said the delay in identifying a common candidate until August is not welcome. This should be chosen by the end of June, either this will be a candidate of the pro-European parties or one representing a broader segment.

The deputy head of the PPDA noted that if a common candidate on behalf of a number of parties is chosen, not only of the political center-right, this candidate cannot be the leader of a party.

According to Alexandru Slusari, the flagrant violation of the human rights to the freedom of assembly and movement, intimidation of protesters, blackmailing and corruption of mayors for these to join the Democratic Party show that Moldova is witnessing the establishment of unprecedented dictatorship.

“In such conditions, the presidential elections are not sufficient for removing the oligarchic regime. That’s why the early parliamentary elections are the only solution for preventing the appearance of the authoritarian regime,” stated Alexandru Slusari, noting that holding the early legislative elections simultaneously with the presidential ones would be the ideal variant.

Speaking about the profile of the common candidate for the President, the deputy head of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” said this should not make compromises to the first deputy chairman of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc and should win the elections. Causing early parliamentary elections by dissolving Parliament by legal mechanisms is the main task of the Head of State.
