Alexandru Slusari: 200 million lei not enough to help farmers

After the Government on Monday decided to allocate 200 million lei from its rainy-day fund to help struggling farmers, Alexandru Slusari commented on his Facebook account that the amount is “six times smaller” than necessary, in addition to being “overdue”.

The executive director of the Farmers’ Force Association recalled that the organization had requested, as early as autumn 2022, that the Government turn to external partners for help to mitigate the agricultural crisis caused by the draught and the Ukraine war. “This is what Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Hungary did. Now farmers in those countries receive compensation from 300 to 674 euros per hectare of wheat”.

Slusari added that the Government failed to impose a three-month moratorium on loan and interest payments, as requested by farmers.
