The phenomenon of corruption at the Ministry of the Interior is on the wane. The imposition of a moratorium on state inspections was one of the reasons that led to the diminution of this phenomenon because considerable corruption was caused by employees involved in fighting economic crime, Minister of the Interior Alexandru Jizdan stated in the program ”Reply” on Prime TV channel, IPN reports.

“When we were banned by law from inspecting business entities, this phenomenon disappeared naturally in this category of investigations,” said the minister. Alexandru Jizdan noted that the people consider the National Patrolling Inspectorate is the most corrupt institution and he thus intends to adopt a new approach to this unit.

The minister also said that 80% of the rapes and murders were committed by persons in a state of inebriation. Statistics show that a person consumes 6.4 liters of alcohol a year globally, while a Moldovan annually drinks 15.9 liters of alcohol on average. Alcohol can be bought unrestrictedly, including at night. The problem of alcohol should be solved. “The modification of the policy on alcohol use will help solve the related problems. The figures speak for themselves. If we deal with this problem, the crime rate will decline,” he stated.

Alexandru Jizdan noted he is concerned about the unhealthy lifestyle and the use of alcohol as a relaxation among police officers. Life expectancy for police officers is of 59 years. To examine the physical state of the employees of the Ministry of the Interior, all the chiefs of the Ministry will be subject to sport tests this May. If the tests are failed, the holding of the post will be in question. All the police officers will be tested later. “We will make the staff of the Ministry to practice sports, not only as amateurs. Some of the employees will practice sports professionally so that we have physically fit persons on the street. The rescuers are those who should resist in any conditions,” said the minister.
