The deputy director of the Security and Intelligence Service Alexandru Esaulenko was suggested for the post of the Service’s director. The parliamentary commission on national security, defense and public order on June 25 approved a draft Parliament decision to this effect, IPN reports.
The commission’s chairman Kiril Moțpan said it is inadmissible for the SIS to be controlled by the political class in a state with the rule of law.
Alexandru Esaulenko is a career officer who has worked for the SIS since 1999. As from November 2018, he has served as deputy director of the Service.
The former SIS director Vasile Botnari was dismissed by Parliament on June 8 this year.
