Alexandru Epureanu becomes champion of Turkey

Moldovan fullback Alexandru Epureanu became the champion of Turkey. Istanbul Bașakșehir won the first title of champion in its history after beating Kayserispor 1-0 in the last but one stage of the championship. Epureanu played throughout the game and was shown a yellow card, IPN reports.

Epureanu has the chance to become the 4th Moldovan who will play in the groups of the UEFA Champions League. The 33-year-old Moldovan joined Istanbul Bașakșehir in 2014. In the championship of Turkey, he has played 157 matches so far, scoring 13 goals. During the last three seasons, Bașakșehir was close to winning the championship, but every time lost to its opoonents Beșiktaș and Galatasaray.

Bașakșehir will now compete in the 1/8 finals of the UEFA Europa League. The team trained by former Turkish international Okan Buruk plays against Copenhagen away on August 5. It if qualifies, Epureanu’s team can meet Manchester United in the quarterfinals.
