Alexandr Stoianoglo won't show up before Parliament on Friday

Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo said that he will not appear in Parliament on Friday, August 20, where he is expected to report on the progress made in recovering the assets stolen in the 2014 bank fraud. "I will act according to the law. Parliament or the law does not provide for the hearing of the prosecutor general in Parliament. The Prosecutor's Office will send a briefing note to Parliament tomorrow regarding all actions taken on the matter", Alexandr Stoianoglo said during a press conference.

The Prosecutor General said that there is no legal or moral basis for him to resign from his post. In his opinion, everything he has done so far, he has done in accordance with the law and that he does not believe that anyone can provide examples where he has broken the law.

"The Prosecutor's Office did not initiate politically motivated investigations and did not persecute businessmen, politicians, journalists, etc. Everything that we have done so far, we have done according to the law, which I declare with full responsibility. I understand that it is desired to lay all political problems on the shoulders of the prosecutor general, which is against the law and against the procedural status of the prosecutor", said Alexandr Stoianoglo.

At the plenary session scheduled for August 20, MPs planned to hear the progress report on the process of recovering funds stolen from the banking system.
