Suspended prosecutor general Alexandr Stoianoglo was placed again under judicial control based on a decision by the Chisinau Appeals Court. The judges accepted the request of the prosecutor, who challenged the decision of the common law court.
“The judges of the Chisinau Appeals Court accepted the appeal of the prosecutor designated by the Superior Council of Prosecutors and ordered to extend the judicial control for the suspended prosecutor general for a period of 30 days, starting with March 15,” spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General’s Office Mariana Cherpec stated for IPN.
Alexandr Stoianoglo was arrested last October and was subsequently placed under house arrest on charges of abuse of office, bribery, perjury, and facilitation of an organized criminal group. The investigation into abuse of office was completed.
The suspended prosecutor general pleads not guilty on all counts. He filed two complaints to the European Court of Human Rights.
