When discussing education, little introduction is needed to explain its necessity and importance for integration into society, especially for people who have moved to another country, said Alexandr Makuhin, PhD in Political Science, during the public debate "Integration of Ukrainian Refugees – Challenges for Educational and Social Systems," organized by IPN News Agency.

Alexandr Makuhin, who is also a permanent expert for the project, highlighted that Moldova is not among the largest countries in terms of the number of people enrolled in the education system. According to the latest available statistics, 140,000 people are studying at various educational levels, including schools, colleges, and universities.

The expert noted that Moldova’s education system is unique because it offers general education in both Romanian and Russian.

Regarding the integration of Ukrainian refugee children, Makuhin observed that schools with Ukrainian-language instruction in Moldova have little in common with authentic Ukrainian schools. For this reason, many Ukrainian refugees choose to study in schools with Russian-language instruction.

"Everyone has the right to education and must be integrated into educational institutions according to their age," Makuhin stated.

Regardless of the chosen language or field of study, every child is entitled to psychological and linguistic support. Special programs are being implemented to address these needs, the expert added.

Makuhin also addressed the distinction felt in society when it comes to Ukrainian ethnic groups. In Moldova, there are Ukrainians from Ukraine and local Ukrainians, whose needs and lifestyles differ.

In conclusion, Alexandr Makuhin expressed his wish to see all children integrated into the education system.
