The secretary of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Alexandr Berlinskii announced his decision to vacate the post of CEC member. Alexandr Berlinskii specified that the reasons for his resignation are personal in character and are related to his private life, IPN reports.
“It was an honor and a challenge to work as an electoral official for almost ten years. During my tenure at the CEC, I had the privilege to contribute to promoting integrity and transparency in electoral processes, working alongside professional colleagues dedicated to the public service. I learned a lot and had valuable experiences, for which I am grateful,” Alexandr Berlinskii wrote on social media sites.
Alexandr Berlinskii was appointed to the CEC in 2021 by Parliament, at the proposal of the PAS group.
Recently, Ludmila Lupashko, who was also proposed by PAS, left the Central Election Commission, arguing that she decided to move abroad. In her place as CEC member, Parliament last week named Rita Lefter-Simashko.
The current composition of the CEC was appointed by Parliament by a majority of votes. Of the nine members, one was proposed by the President of the country, while eight were suggested by parliamentary groups, proportionally to the number of held seats. As a result of the made legislative changes, starting with 2026 the Central Election Commission will consist of seven members. Four of them will be appointed by Parliament, and by one member will be named by the President of the country, the Superior Council of Magistracy and the Government, at the proposal of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
