Alex Vasilianov now tops the modern pentathlon rankings for qualification for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games after he finished third at the tournaments in Kazakhstan and Kirgizstan, IPN reports.
A new result achieved in Prague this week brought the 17-year-old athlete closer to the Olympic Games that will be held in Argentina. Another four qualifying tournaments will take place next year. The final modern pentathlon tournament will involve 24 athletes, by one from each state.
Five Moldovan sportspersons have won medals at the Youth Olympic Games so far. Canonist Sergey Tarnovski is the only one who became champion, at Nanjing in 2014.
