The journalist Alecu Reniță notes that the collection of parties promoting unification with Romania remains disunited still after the February 24 elections, as some of them oppose the amalgamation of the unionist movement. If a common unionist platform is not formed eventually, thinks Alecu Reniță, the promoters of unification will not have any representatives in future parliaments too.
“There will be other elections, another election cycle. But without union among unionits themselves, there will be no result no matter what some think”, stated Alecu Reniță. According to him, there should be an open and responsible debate among all the unification leaders.
National Liberal Party leader Vitalia Pavlicenco blamed her party’s poor electoral score on the deep-seated perception that certain parties have little chances of winning, with polls contributing to it. “Obviously starting lines are different for every party financially, when some spend millions and others have to make do with a couple of thousands. And when you strive to promote a correct message, while people don’t support you with money because of ‘not having the chance’, obviously you end up with diminished results”, said Pavlicenco. In her opinion, the voting fraud and vote buying also affected the score of the PNL and of unionist parties in general.
Ion Cebanu, the president of the Liberal Party’s youth wing, said that only parties with TV channels and money made it into Parliament. “I believe we have been subjected to unprecedented levels of propaganda. We participated in these elections, saw how the debates were organized and I can tell you that in such conditions the unionists have no chance. Even if 90% of Moldova’s population were unionists, in the conditions the February 24 elections were held, no honest man had a chance. These weren’t elections, but a farce”.
All the four parties with a clear unionist message that participated in the recent elections were far from clearing the 6% threshold needed to enter Parliament, as the Liberal Party polled 1.25% of the vote, Antimafie - 0.61%, Democracy at Home - 0,32%, and the National Liberal Party - 0.24%.
