ALDE Leader Arina Spataru calls for the resignation of Health Minister Ala Nemerenco

The President of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE), Arina Spataru, has called for the resignation of the Minister of Health and the urgent adoption of a malpractice law. This initiative was announced at a press conference held at IPN, in the context of the conviction of the Balti doctor Sergiu Cozub.

According to Spataru, “the case of Sergiu Cozub is just a symptom of a deeper disease, a disease we call corruption, indifference, and lack of responsibility”. Arina Spataru referred to the stories of four patients treated by doctor Cozub, all of whom died.

Spataru emphasized that the problem with Moldova’s healthcare system is not the lack of technical equipment or medical devices, even though “millions of euros from European funds are being pumped into this area.” The issue lies in “the lack of will to change an outdated and corrupt system”.

The ALDE leader stressed the urgent need for a malpractice law “that would clarify responsibilities and establish a fair framework for protecting the rights of both patients and medical staff”. According to Spataru, in the absence of this law, “we are witnessing tragedies that could have been avoided”.

After the press conference at IPN, the agency's reporter requested a response from the Ministry of Health regarding the accusations made by Arina Spataru. The ministry's main communications consultant, Cristina Ivanco, promised a reply in the coming days.
