Radu Albot had a good start at the Tunis Open Challenger competition that is taking place in Tunisia and has a prize fund of US$125,000. The Moldovan tennis player beat Marsel Ilhan of Turkey 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 in the inaugural round.
With this success, Albot secured at least 10 points in the world hierarchy and a prize of US$2,150. In the second round, he will play against the winner of the match between Malek Jaziri of Tunisia and Benjamin Becker of Germany.
Two more members of the national team of Moldova are taking part in international competitions. Andrei Ciumac is among the favourites of the Futures tournament held in Shymkent, Kazakhstan. He will play the first match against Egor Kovalev.
Maxim Dubarenko will compete for the first trophy this year. In the Futures tournament in Antalya, his first opponent is Belgium’s Olaf de Weerdt.
