Albot fails to qualify for quarterfinals of Mersin tournament

Moldova’s best tennis player Radu Albot was eliminated in the second round of the ATP Challenger Tour in Mersin, Turkey. He was beaten by Italy’s Matteo Viola in three sets, IPN reports.

Albot, who ranks 179th in the ATP rankings, lost to a tennis player who is by 31 spots lower in the world rankings, by 2-6, 6-4, 4-6. In the decisive set, Albot was leading by 4-3, but Viola managed to take control and to qualify for the quarterfinals.

Competing in this tournament, Albot won €1,100 and 8 points in the ATP rankings, owing to the victory scored in the first round against Turkey’s Mersel Ilhan. The prize money for the Mersin competition totals €64,000.

In his career, Albot won only one victory in a Challenger tournament. He scored it last year at Fergana in Uzbekistan.
