Radu Albot won all of his three matches in the qualifications for the US Open Grand Slam tournament, reaching the competition's main panel. This is a historic result for Moldovan sport as it's the first time a tennis player from Moldova will compete in a Grand Slam tournament, IPN reports.
Albot bested France's Gregoire Burquier in the first round in two sets, 6-1 and 6-3. In the second round, he eliminated Hungary's Márton Fucsovics in three sets, 6-4, 3-6 and 6-0. In the final round, he defeated England's James Ward in three sets, 6-1, 3-6 and 6-2.
Radu Albot sits 204th in the world tennis rankings. His next game is against Frenchman Gilles Simon, ranked 30th.
