Albot and Borvanov eliminated from Wimbledon

Moldova’s best tennis players were eliminated on Monday, June 18, in the first qualifying round at the Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon, Info-Prim Neo reports. Albot lost to American Brian Baker, score 2-6, 3-6, while Borvanov was bested by Spain’s Arnau Brugues-Davi, score 6-7, 3-6. In 2012, Albot and Borvanov participated in the Australian Open qualifiers, but failed to reach the next stage. Albot reached the 217th position in the ATP rankings, his best so far, while Borvanov dropped to 264th. On June 25, the International Tennis Federation will announce whether Radu Albot will receive or not the special invitation to the London Olympics. Should it be granted, this would be a historic premiere for the Moldovan tennis.
