Most of the prices in the public healthcare system haven’t been updates since 2011, and increasing some of them is necessary, stated Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco in an annual roundup press conference, adding however that the hike in prices will not affect those covered by the mandatory health insurance system.
The minister gave some examples of health services that will increase the most. Today the price of an adenoidectomy or tonsillectomy is 70 lei, while costs include anesthesia, instruments, consumables, medicines, and labor. To bring the price closer to the real costs, it will be increased to 1,124 lei. Similarly, oxygen therapy in a hyperbaric chamber will increase from 59 lei to 500 lei.
Ala Nemerenco stressed that insured people will not be affected by the higher prices, urging the public to claim their entitlements when they visit medical institutions. “These rates are not for the insured patients, but rather they are used by the National Health Insurance Company in calculating funds to be paid to the healthcare institutions”, said the minister.
