Ala Nemerenco anticipates rise in number of infections with COVID-19

Ala Nemerenco, adviser to the President on health issues, forecasts a slight increase in the number of cases of COVID-19 in the immediate period due to the relaxation of restrictions and the effects of the Easter holidays, IPN reports.

“I don’t think there will be an explosion as this would mean a bad situation in the areas around the Republic of Moldova, but we will yet have a slight rise owing to the lifting of restrictions and the start of the warm season, when the people feel the danger of the virus less, relax and go out. It is also the effect of the Easter holidays,” Ala Nemerenco stated in the program “Secrets of the Power” on JurnalTV channel.

According to the adviser, the low figures witnessed until now are also due to the high vaccination rate in the countries of the region. “The virus has a seasonal behavior. We are now witnessing a diminution of its activity and the high vaccination rate in the neighboring countries influences the indicators as we have fewer imported cases. We also have a high number of persons who have natural immunity,” stated Ala Nemerenco.

On May 19, the authorities launched the complete third vaccination stage. According to the presidential adviser, the immunization process in our country is slow and society is far from acquiring collective immunity. Those who want to get a vaccine are urged to make an appointment through www.vaccinare.gov.md .
