Airport attacker was wanted in Tajikistan for committing an offense

The man who committed an armed attack at the Chisinau International Airport and killed two persons, injuring the third one, is wanted in Tajikistan. He is suspected of forming part of a criminal group that in the evening of June 23 kidnapped the first vice president of a bank in Dushanbe, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Tajikistan said in a press release that is quoted by IPN.

In Tajikistan, legal action was taken over the kidnapping and an investigation group was constituted to hold the culprits to account. One of the suspects, Rustam Ashurov aged 43, fled to Moldova through Turkey for reaching later the European Union.

On June 30, when he arrived in Chisinau, the man was banned entry into Moldova. When he was being accompanied to the sterile area for being sent back, the man grabbed the gun of a border police officer and killed two people, wounding the third. 31-year-old border police officer Sergei Muntean died. The victim served as deputy chief agent and had worked for the Border Police since 2011. The second victim is aviation security officer Igor Ciofu aged 40. No details were made public about the injured passenger. The attacker was caught, being wounded during the siege and is now under medical care.
