Air Moldova airline said that it cancelled the three flights scheduled for Wednesday because it could not pay for the services of the state-run Chisinau International Airport after it accounts had been blocked. The Civil Aviation Authority announced that it closely monitors the situation and recommends the passengers to ask for compensation, IPN reports.

“The accounts of Air Moldova airline had been blocked. Therefore, the company was unable o pay for the services of the state-run Chisinau International Airport, for the aircraft used under a wet lease agreement and for fuel for operating the three flights that were later cancelled. Air Moldova has reached an agreement with the creditor that blocked the accounts and can now use these as usual. Even if Air Moldova is in a difficult situation and has worked without own aircraft since March, the airline was obliged by the bank to increase the deposited sum for guaranteeing the refunding of the price of unused tickets. As a result, Air Moldova cannot use a part of the money coming from online sales and cannot fully cover the operating costs,” the operator noted in a press release.

“We will continue to negotiate and reach compromises with our partners. The flights scheduled for this evening will be operated. Dear passengers, we apologize for the caused inconvenience and assure you that the price of tickets for the cancelled flights will be refunded,” said the airline.

In connection with the cancellation of a series of flights by Air Moldova, the Civil Aviation Authority noted that the passengers whose flights were cancelled can call on the consumer’s telephone (022) 823583 or can claim compensation. “We encourage the passengers who got stuck in airports to ask for assistance from the air operator that is obliged to offer accommodation and food to passengers until possibilities of rerouting to the final destination are identified,” said the institution.
