The farmers demand that the authorities construct the promised agrifood center on the area in central Chisinau where there earlier was the national stadium. They consider the five hectares will be enough for building a modern agrifood center. Related statements were made by the president of the National Farmers Federation of Moldova Valeriu Cosarciuc in a joint meeting of the administration boards of the National Farmers Federation, the National Union “Uniagroprotect”, and the National Federation of Agricultural Producers “Agroinform”, IPN reports.

Valeriu Cosarciuc said the farmers do not have where to sell their goods and an agrifood center in Chisinau will enable them to receive orders for their products and then to sell them on the home market or to export them.

According to the president of the National Farmers Federation of Moldova, he discussed this issue with the authorities, who initially said that an agrifood center may be built if all the associations of agricultural producers ask for this. However, they later changed their mind, saying the center cannot be constructed in Chisinau as the problem of heavy traffic will not be sold. “The 5 hectares of land are sufficient to build parking lots and storehouses too,” stated Valeriu Cosarciuc.

The possibility of building an agrifood center in Chisinau has been discussed since 2010, when Valeriu Cosarciuc was Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry. Initially, they said it would be built near the Agrarian University, but then its possible location was moved outside the city.

The national stadium on Tighina St was demolished seven years ago. Foreign investors attempted to built a new stadium, but all in vain. The stadium has been used by athletes for 55 years, but now looks like a waste dump. About 500 million lei is needed to construct a new stadium.
