Agriculture Ministry takes measured against E. coli
The Phytosanitary Surveillance Inspectorate General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry instructed the phytosanitary inspectors who control the imported vegetal products at customs terminals to put the stamp on the customs declaration only after the importers present the hygienic certificate, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Ministry.
The move is aimed at preventing the import of vegetables – tomatoes, potatoes and green salad – infected with E. coli, which produces toxins. The measure was introduced on a temporary basis and will be applied until a new special order is made.
According to the Ministry, the Moldovan companies now import fresh vegetables only from Greece, Turkey and Romania.
