Agriculture minister goes to Moscow to discuss wine exports

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry took notice of the statement of Russia’s food safety body “Rospotrebnadzor” concerning the quality of the Moldovan wine products. Given the joint interest of promoting Moldovan products to Russia and the importance of increasing exports to this country, including of wine products, the existing problems will be discussed during Minister Vasile Bumacov’s official visit to Russia scheduled for this month, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Ministry, a number of measures have been taken to improve the mechanism of checking the quality of wine products. A memorandum was signed with Moldovan winemaking and winegrowing associations, by which the producers assumed responsibility for making wine of a high quality and promoting it abroad.

The state will more thoroughly inspect the production of wine with names of the place of origin and geographical indications, from the growing of grapes to the obtaining of the final product. For the purpose, there is created the National Vine and Wine Office.

About 80% of the Moldovan companies exporting wine implemented quality management systems (ISO 9001 and 22000), while their laboratories were recently attested and accredited by the National Accreditation Center

As many as 29 wine businesses have exported wine to Russia this year. Sales totaled over €23 million. In the period, “Rospotrebnadzor” made no complaint about the quality of the Moldovan wine products.
