Agriculture does not have a good image in Moldova, German expert
The agricultural sector in Moldova does not have a very good image, said an expert of the German Agency for International Cooperation. “I ascertained that the Moldovans consider the farmers as people without much knowledge, who can do nothing but cultivate the land. Many Moldovans prefer to go to Italy and look after foreigners than to do a decent work and cultivate the land in their country,” Christoph Weber told the press during a fact-finding trip organized by the Embassy of Germany in Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Christoph Weber coordinates projects financed by Germany in agriculture. The expert considers that the persons involved in agriculture are wrong when they refuse to form associations. “A farmer cannot have all the machines needed to cultivate the land and gather the harvest. They can join together with other farmers who have other types of equipment and will do the work much easier in concert. But the Moldovans fear the Soviet kolkhozes may return and do not want to do something in common,” said the expert.
He also spoke about positive examples in Moldova. He said that the farmers in Ungheni district, where there is implemented a project to use the recently built refrigerated room, learned to obtain the largest harvest possible from their land. They gather three types of harvest from a plot during a year.
Germany finances a number of microprojects in agriculture, environment protection and development of villages in Moldova. A microproject has a budget of up to €15,000.
