After almost a year since Chisinau and Tiraspol agreed how the license plates for Transnistrian vehicles running on international routes will look, things remained unchanged. According to the coordinator of the competent working group of Chisinau, Deputy Minister of Transport Vladimir Cebotari, there are different views about the procedure for registering vehicles that will have new license numbers.

The deputy minister has told IPN that the Transnistrian side hasn’t yet signed the protocol concerning the model of license plates. The official Chisinau proposed that the means of transport should be examined in overhaul stations authorized in Moldova or in concert. The Moldovan authorities insist that the procedure for registering vehicles, the agreed registration certificates and other elements of the mechanism should meet the international standards in the transport sector and the commitments stipulated in the bilateral and multilateral agreements to which Moldova is a party. The Transnistrian side suggested no mechanism for now.

The license plates will contain the AB series followed by five digits imprinted on a white background. It was agreed that the plates will have a set of neutral holographic symbols.
