Agreement with Saudi Arabia for new investments, direct flights and multilateral partnerships

The Republic of Moldova and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia signed an intergovernmental cooperation agreement. Through this treaty, both states committed themselves to expanding trade relations, facilitating investments and cooperating in the fields of education, science, sports, youth and technology, through the implementation of mutually beneficial bilateral projects. The document was signed in Riyadh, where Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi met with Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, IPN reports.

Deputy Premier Mihai Popșoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, appreciated the readiness of his Saudi counterpart to sign this agreement, stressing that the document will bring benefits to the citizens of both countries.

During the meeting, the officials discussed ways to increase economic exchanges between the Republic of Moldova and Saudi Arabia. The Moldovan foreign minister stressed Moldova's preparedness to export Moldovan products to the Saudi market, especially of the agricultural and agri-food sectors. Likewise, Mihai Popșoi highlighted the importance of launching a direct flight between Moldova and Saudi Arabia so as to facilitate travel between the two countries.

Mihai Popșoi invited Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud to pay a visit to the Republic of Moldova.

This is the first official visit paid to the Arab state since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and Saudi Arabia in 1996. Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi will have also meetings with the Minister of Commerce, the Deputy Minister of Energy and the president of the Saudi South East Europe Business Council.
