Agreement on regulation of labor migration with Bulgaria approved

The Cabinet on August 1 approved the agreement on the regulation of labor migration with Bulgaria that was signed in Sofia on June 18. This will be submitted to Parliament for ratification, IPN reports.

The agreement envisions the recruitment and legal employment of citizens of both of the states on the territory of the signatory parties. According to the authorities, in the long run the document will diminish illegal labor migration by increasing the legal employment opportunities through the competent institutions. The migrant workers will be obliged to return home when their period of stay on the territory of the other state expires.

The document was signed for a period of five years and can be extended for periods of three years if the signatory parties come to terms.

According to Moldova’s embassy and consular offices, 5,147 Moldovan migrant workers stayed in Bulgaria since 2016.
