Seven young men from Causeni were sentenced for attacking two couples in the street four years ago. One of the women wanted to defend her husband and was stabbed mortally, IPN reports, quoting the Prosecutor General’s Office.

In November 2010, two related couples were returning home after they celebrated the purchase of a home. On the way home, the culprits approached the women and started to talk to them. Their husbands urged them to leave. The individuals insulted the men and started to beat them, stabbing one of them in the face with a knife. One of the women hurried to help her husband and was stabbed fatally by one of the attackers. The victim died on the spot.

One of the culprits aged 30 got 24 years for deliberate murder. He was also obliged to pay 70,000 lei to the successor of the injured party. Another offender, of 24, was sentenced to 11 years in jail and obliged to pay 5,000 lei damages to the successor of the injured party.  Both of the culprits had been on probation and their jail terms were thus extended.

The other five culprits, aged between 21 and 29, were fined 10,000 to 16,000 lei and obliged to pay by 5,000 lei to the successor of the victim. The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
