Agency for Energy Conservation to be transformed into Agency for Energy Efficiency

The Government decided to create the Agency for Energy Efficiency by reorganizing the National Agency for Energy Conservation. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar said the new organization will implement the state policy on energy efficiency and renewable sources of energy, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Agency for Energy Efficiency will approve energy efficiency projects financed from the Energy Efficiency Fund, will coordinate programs and plans of action worked out by the local public authorities and energy efficiency programs financed by international organizations. “We aim to create an entire industry that will provide work to construction companies and companies specialized in energy efficiency. There will be created new companies whose work will benefit energy consumers,” Valeriu Lazar said. A sum of 800,000 lei was allocated from this year’s budget for founding and maintaining the Agency for Energy Efficiency. At the first stage, the Agency will have 12 employees that will be selected by contest. A number of preliminary agreements have been signed with foreign backers that expressed readiness to support the Agency by training specialists, especially in devising energy efficiency projects that could be financed from international energy efficiency funds and within similar programs.
