The public authority “Unit for Implementation of Agricultural Production Growth Project” will be reorganized by being transformed into the Agency for Agriculture Development and Modernization that will be a public institution, IPN reports.
The Agency’s mission will be to manage the assets transmitted by the founder, donations and/or loans of foreign backers allocated to the Agency for management. It will facilitate the farmers’ access to modern agricultural machinery for sale-purchase, including in installments, so as to ensure the growth of competitive agri-food production by providing consultancy and expertise, training, assistance in planning businesses.
The first project that will be managed by the new public institution will be financed by Japan that offered a preferential loan of US$18.6 million repayable in 12 years to Moldova. This loan is a follow-up to the ten grants offered to Moldovan farmers for purchasing modern agricultural machinery. The grants provided by Japan so far were used to buy over 19,000 units of agricultural equipment, including 5,000 tractors, 580 combines, 800 irrigation machines, 32 units of anti-hail equipment and 17 hothouse modules.
