Age mustn’t be discrimination element on employment, debate

The national legislation bans discrimination on grounds of age on employment, but the employers not always obey the law. Most of the times, the young people cannot find a job because they lack experience, while the state should propose a set of measures that would enable the young people to gain experience. Difficulties are also experienced by persons who reach pre-retirement age. They are often fired because of this.

In a roundtable meeting, Deputy Minister of Labor Ruxanda Glavan said the legislation on labor stipulates that only three categories of people can be dismissed when they reach retirement. These are the public servants, the teachers and the managers of state authorities, IPN reports.

If the persons who reached retirement ask to be further employed, the employer can ensure this socioeconomic right based on an individual work contract. The contract is signed for a definite period of time and can be extended, said the deputy minister.

Vice director of the National Employment Agency Raisa Dogaru said the uninformed persons are often discriminated. The Agency organizes training courses centering on the legislation and rights for those who look for a job about and provides advice for preparing for an interview with the employer.
