After withdrawal of licenses, BEM, Banca Socială and Unibank collected over 2.8bn lei

After the withdrawal of their licenses, in the period between October 2015 and June 30, 2022, Banca de Economii, Banca Socială and Unibank collected a total of 2 804 346 lei. The National Bank of Moldova said the liquidators continue taking measures to collect outstanding debts, IPN reports.

Between November 2014 and October 2015, the National Bank provided Banca de Economii SA, Bănca Sociale and Unibank with emergency loans secured by state guarantees totaling 14 121 758 lei.

The funds available in the accounts of the three banks when the licenses were withdrawn and the money levied earlier by the liquidators are used to cover costs related to the liquidation procedure and to pay the debts related to the emergency loan to the National Bank and the Ministry of Finance.

“The liquidators of the three banks continue taking measures to recover the released loans. They cooperate with the investigation and legal bodies and continue work with debtors. The final goal is to obtain the repayment of loans raised from these banks and the emergency loans provided by the NBM,” the central bank noted in a press release.

Furthermore, in the second quarter of this year, the liquidators of the three banks staged a number of auctions to sell assets owned by the banks and confiscated goods.
