After resignation, the Government of Moldova can only manage public affairs until a new Cabinet is sworn in. Doctor Habilitate of Law Ion Guceac, who is university lecture and scientific secretary general of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, has told Info-Prim Neo that after the head of state accepts the resignation, the Government will perform strictly operational work. “The Government will ensure the security of the state, social security and legal order. It will no longer approve decisions that are mandatory in character, only ordinances. It will coordinate the current, operational activity. The executive will be unable to approve draft laws. The March 7 meeting was the last meeting where bills could be approved. However, the Government will continue to hold meetings to deal with current issues,” said Ion Guceac. He also said that President Nicolae Timofti must propose a candidate for the post of Premier within 45 days of the acceptance of the Government’s resignation. The Government headed by Vlad Filat received a vote of no confidence from Parliament on March 5. On March 8, the Premier is to tender the Cabinet’s resignation.
