After referendum, Mihai Ghimpu will consult Constitutional Court about necessity of dissolving Parliament

Acting President Mihai Ghimpu said he will consult the Constitutional Court about the necessity of dissolving the legislative body after the referendum. He made the statement in a program on the public TV channel on July 13 in the evening, Info-Prim Neo reports. Asked by the political analyst Arcadie Barbarosie if he will dissolve the Parliament after the referendum if the people vote in favor of direct election of the head of state, Mihai Ghimpu said he will consult the Constitutional Court about this. “We will hold the referendum and then I will consult the Constitutional Court to see if the legislature should be dissolved or nor,” the Acting President said. In a statement, the parliamentary Opposition says the referendum initiated by the Alliance for European Integration is not aimed at determining the method of electing the head of state. It will not represent the consultation of the population, but a continuation of the coup staged on April 7. The PCRM considers the referendum is the only method for the government coalition to avoid early legislative elections and remain in power.
