After natural gas, heat charge will also be raised

After the natural gas charge was raised, the heat charge will also be increased. The National Agency for Energy Regulation’s director Alexei Taran confirmed the information at a press conference. He noted that discussions between the Agency and thermal energy operators will be initiated in the near future.

"The natural gas is the main fuel used to produce thermal energy. This means that the companies operating in the thermal energy sector will also be attracted in order to do the calculations. Positive deviations were accumulated at thermal energy companies in 2024. We are going to start discussions with thermal energy operators so as to see a schedule for submitting applications. The fact is the price of gas exerts an influence,” said Taran.

Currently, consumers served by Termoelectrica pay 1,824 lei for a gigacalorie of heat, and the consumers served by CET Nord pay 1,819 lei.

Alexei Taran noted that the NAER does not direct prices, but only closely follows the evolution of international markets. According to him, the prospects that the price of energy resources in the first quarter of 2025 will remain at a high level are quite high.

The National Agency for Energy Regulatory on Friday approved an increase of 3.4 lei in the natural gas charge to 15.5 lei per cubic meter. With VAT, the charge is 16.74 lei. The adjusted rates will come into force on December 1.
