AEI will announce solution for electing head of state on September 21
The leaders of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) will make public their solution for electing the head of state on September 21, after the Constitutional Court pronounces on Article 78 of the Constitution of Moldova on September 20. The decision was announced on Tuesday evening, after the meeting of the AEI Council, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The chairman of the Liberal Party (PL) Mihai Ghimpu said the head of state will be elected legally and the constitutional crisis will be resolved. “I want to believe that the discussion was sincere and the Alliance will work and implement the undertaken program. But for this we need political stability that depends on the political stability inside the AEI, which is connected with the election of the President. I hope the discussion will lead to the election of the head of state and we will carry out the assumed program” he said.
He also said that if the Constitution is not amended, there will be held early elections. “Adopting a new Constitution is the best solution. The Constitutional Court does not have to approve the new Constitution, which is adopted by Parliament in first reading and by referendum in second reading. Everything is constitutional and legal,” stated Mihai Ghimpu.
Marian Lupu, the leader of the Democratic Party (PDM), said after the meeting that they discussed a number of possibilities for overcoming the political crisis in compliance with the political agreement signed last December, but the solution will be announced on September 21.
The chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Vlad Filat said the President of Moldova must be elected and will be elected in strict compliance with the Constitution. “We thoroughly discussed the steps that must be taken. We did not discuss how the head of state will be elected, but are to identify solutions. The discussions are diverse,” said Vlad Filat.
The AEI leaders also said they spoke about the necessity of presenting the draft budget law to Parliament not later than October 1 and of adopting it not later than December 5. They agreed to start the consultations on the budgetary-fiscal policy and to open the autumn-winter session of the legislature on September 29-30.
