AEI suggests amendments to law on election of President
The Alliance for European Integration (AEI) proposes amendments to the law on the election of the President of Moldova so that a new date of the presidential elections is set within ten days if the previous elections are invalidated.
The bill was to be discussed in the November 23 meeting of the parliamentary commission on appointments and immunities, but its examination was put off at the request of the PLDM, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Liberal-Democratic MP Tudor Deliu, who is one of the authors of the bill, argued that the document must be supplemented. “We consider that the bill should envision all the possible situations. Amending one paragraph of the law will not help solve the problem,” said Tudor Deliu.
The improved bill will be ready in the near future. The jurists of the AEI will come together to examine all the aspects, said the lawmaker.
Communist MP Sergiu Sarbu said the legislation is indeed imperfect, but this bill solves nothing. “The idea is probably good, but it is not polished,” he stated.
The November 18 presidential elections were invalidated because no candidate for the presidency was registered. The law does not specify what should be done in such a situation. The Communist Party considers the elections must be considered null and void and should be rerun, while the ruling alliance thinks the elections did not take place and a new date of the presidential elections should be set.
