The National Liberal Party (PNL) backs the positive steps taken by the Alliance for European Integration (AEI), but condemns the ‘pre-electoral massacre’ launched by its leaders and warns about the danger of disappointing the electorate, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The PNL is in constructive opposition to the AEI. The party considers that the real reason why the proposal to shorten the election campaign was submitted is Vladimir Filat’s wish to see himself in the senior state post as soon as possible, with a press obeying the power,” the PNL leader Vitalia Pavlichenko said in a news conference. The party suggests postponing the legislative elections and holding them together with the local elections next year. Vitalia Pavlichenko said she subscribes to the open letter addressed by the Moldova for Europe Foundation to the European Parliament, whereby a group of young people working abroad ask not supporting those who have nothing in common with liberalism or carried out illegal economic activities. The authors of the letter remind that Prime Minister Vlad Filat was earlier investigated by Romanian prosecutors for smuggling. Pavlichenko said the political leaders popular with the public are now gathering money to buy votes. She also said that the ruling Pro-European leaders made much fewer statements about the pullout of the Russian troops from Transnistria than the PCRM. The National Liberal Party says that after the people elect the President and the political and constitutional crisis is overcome, there should be drafted a bill to review the Constitution as the roles and positions of the legislature and executive in Moldova in the new circumstances need to be defined. The PNL announced it will have its own candidate for the presidency.
