AEI does not yet know if it wants common electoral staff with extra-parliamentary parties

The Alliance for European Integration (AEI) will have a common electoral staff in the campaign for the September 5 constitutional referendum. The inclusion of representatives of extra-parliamentary parties in the staff is not excluded, but the idea is backed not by all the components of the Alliance, Info-Prim Neo reports. Members of the AEI were asked to comment on the initiative to create an electoral staff for the referendum that will involve representatives of the parliamentary and extra-parliamentary parties. The initiative was made public by the Ecologist Party “Green Alliance” in a news conference on July 21. The leader of the “Moldova Noastra” Alliance Serafim Urecheanu said the initiative is welcome. “The Moldovan politicians should follow the example of the politicians from the Baltic republics – the democratic forces should join and act in the interests of the Moldovan people so as to overcome the crisis,” Urecheanu said, adding the AEI might discuss the given initiative. Democrat MP Igor Corman also welcomed the idea of the Greens. “The next days, we will decide who will form part of the common electoral staff of the Alliance. The staff will submit proposals and ideas for coordinating the activities of the parties in the campaign for the referendum. The proposals of the extra-parliamentary parties will be examined,” Igor Corman said. The head of the Liberal Democratic parliamentary group Mihai Godea is more skeptical. “The Alliance has held discussions about the creation of a common staff. We must see the content of the proposal of the “Green Alliance” as this is not a classical campaign. The joint actions of the parties must be coordinated,” he said. Liberal MP Valeriu Munteanu said the Ecologist Party “Green Alliance” is an extra-parliamentary party that manifests itself only in election campaigns. “The PL had been an extra-parliamentary party, but we worked not only during campaigns,” he said. Valeriu Munteanu also said the parties that form part of the Alliance assigned their representatives to the common electoral staff that will coordinate the activities of the AEI during the campaign. It will include Liberal MP Boris Vieru, Liberal-Democrat MP Valeriu Strelet, Democrat MP Igor Corman, and the MP of the “Moldova Noastra” Alliance Vasile Balan. According to Serafim Urecheanu, the leaders of the AEI will discuss the creation of the staff immediately after Acting President Mihai Ghimpu, the leader of the Liberal Party, returns to Moldova from Geneva.
