Advertising on school buses to be banned
The Parliament's Legal Commission has endorsed an amendment to the Law on Education prohibiting the placement of advertising on school buses. The initiative targets in particular the political parties and businesses that donate such school buses in exchange for publicity, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Liberal-Democrat MP Gheorghe Focsa, the measure's author, stressed that children should be spared from being used for political or commercial advertising. “If vehicles are donated, their use must not be subject to conditions”, he argued.
The proposal was supported by the Liberal-Democrat, Liberal and Communist members of the Commission. The Communists said that the initiative's scope should be extended to cover vehicles used by local authorities as well, noting that there are many cases where cars donated to mayor's offices by political parties display the colors and symbols of those parties.
During debates on the measure, several allusions were made to suggest that it was the Democratic Party which used to donate vehicles displaying the party's symbols. The Democrat members didn't endorse the amendment.
