Members of the Association of Advertising Agencies (ААРМ) consider that certain goals are pursued when attempts are made to get rid of the billboards located on Dacia Blvd. in Chisinau, up to the Airport. They demand annulling the mayor’s ordinance to this effect, Info-Prim Neo reports. AAPM secretary Margarita Smitskaya told a news conference that the situation created on the outdoor advertising market during the last few weeks makes the advertising agencies to seek help from society. They do not understand why the decision to take the billboards down was taken by the mayor without a relevant decision of the Chisinau Municipal Council. The advertising operators say that the Road Law to which Dorin Chirtoaca makes reference has nothing to do with the municipal streets as it refers only to highways located outside the city. The members of AAPM inquire why the City Hall is allowed to take illegal decisions and why all the billboards should be removed within one month only. According to them, the lack of lighting and the risk of accidents cannot be considered serious arguments for taking the billboards away. AAPM member Victoria Barba said that she heard rumors and saw press reports according to which the mayor’s decision was determined by the fact that his brother runs an advertising company and advertises LED devices as well. The head of the AAPM Council Serghei Hasanov said that after discussing with the municipal authorities, he realized that the road section between the City’s Gates and the Airport is prepared for somebody. Recently, the mayor of Chisinau made an ordinance to remove all the billboards set up on Dacia Blvd. illegally. The deadline is June 1. If the economic entities do not comply with the decision, the City Hall will take the billboards away by force at their expense. If they do not cover the costs voluntarily, they will be sued. Earlier this week, the mayor suggested starting removing the billboards before the expiration of the time limit.
