Advanced media production facility inaugurated at MediaCor Center

The MediaCor American Pavilion, a state-of-the-art media production facility that will advance Moldova’s growing media industry, was officially opened at the MediaCor Digital Media Production Center. The United States contributed more than $1 million toward the construction of the American Pavilion, with the investment being funded by the U.S. State Department through the Embassy’s Public Diplomacy Section, IPN reports.

U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Kent D. Logsdon said that this new pavilion represents another incredible step forward to expand a key sector of the Moldovan economy and provide new professional opportunities for Moldova’s most creative and talented people. “With this new filming space that meets international industry standards, MediaCor is now fully equipped to attract media productions from within Moldova and elsewhere. And with state-of-the-art technology at their fingertips, students at Moldova State will have the opportunity to learn everything they need to know to succeed in this growing industry. Moldova now has all the right ingredients to truly become a leader in this industry. This means good paying jobs and great opportunities for young people to stay in Moldova and build something lasting,” stated the diplomat.

President Maia Sandu said that several centers for developing creative industries have been created so far and the building of such a new space is not an exception, but a gladdening tendency. The building of creative centers contributes to realizing the creative potential and offers the young people in Moldova the chance to assert themselves at home. “We would like these projects to lay the basis of economic competitiveness as the creative industries are continuously developing industries that offer jobs and contribute to the Gross Domestic Product. We should therefore create such conditions here, at home,” stated the official.

Minister of Education and Research Anatolie Topală said the extension of the MediaCor Center within the Moldova State University will attract young people to the innovation and research sectors, which are priority ones. During a short period of time since its founding, MediaCor managed to become a space for conducting activities to support young people and students and to offer training to those who already work in multimedia companies.

As from September 1 this year, the young people in Moldova can study such specialties as Animation, Game Design and New Media at the Moldova State University. Vasile Braga, executive director of the Association of Creative Industry Companies (COR) of Moldova, said that over 300 students come weekly to the practical courses staged at MediaCor. Therefore, this place will enable the students to gain appropriate experience so that they are hired when they complete their studies.

The first in Moldova Digital Media Production Center MediaCor was opened last year thanks to a partnership to the value of almost US$3 million between the U.S. Embassy, the Government of Sweden, the Government of the UK, the Ministry of Education and Research and COR Association.
