Adrian Paunescu to be immortalized in Chisinau

Monday's ordinary meeting of the Chisinau City Hall began with a moment of silence in memory of the late poet and politician Adrian Paunescu. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca said the poet's death left emptiness, sadness and pain in people's hearts, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Adrian Paunescu's work will remain alongside the work of Grigore Vieru and Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici,” said the mayor, who Sunday evening returned from the poet's funeral held at the Bellu Cemetery in Bucharest. Dorin Chirtoaca said that a Chisinau street should be named Adrian Paunescu and instructed officials of the Architecture and Urbanism Division and deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu to formulate related proposals and submit them to the Chisinau Municipal Council for consideration. Born in Copaceni, Balti, Adrian Paunescu died on November 5 after struggling with diabetes for a long time. He was 67.
