Romania invests in the quality of education in the Republic of Moldova because it wants generations here to be education in a pro-European sprit, said secretary of state of the Romanian Government’s Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova Adrian Dupu. For their part, representatives of the Moldovan government said they want the commercial relations with Romania to be extended, noting that Bucharest offers enormous support to Moldova by selling electricity to it, even if the price of this is higher than the price at which power was earlier bought from the Kuchurgan power plant, IPN reports.
The chairman of the Coalition for Unity and Welfare Igor Munteanu said Romania is the country that the Moldovans perceive as a lifebuoy for Moldova. According to a recent survey conducted by CBS Research and commissioned by the Institute for Development and Social Initiatives “Viitorul” and the Institute of Political Science and International Relations of Romania, 29.7% of those polled consider Romania helps Moldova the most.
“It is gladdening that Romania is not only a destination for exports, but is also the country that helps the citizens of the Republic of Moldova the most and is a factor of stability. Romania became the lifebuoy for the energy system. In the future, increased efforts should be made for the critical infrastructure to follow the same development model as Romania’s. We should integrate the Republic of Moldova into the common space. I mean the energy, security, insurance, universal education systems. Romania, alongside other states, assists the Republic of Moldova through the support platform, but the Republic of Moldova cannot always ask for support. We should step up efforts to ensure economic recovery,” Igor Munteanu stated in the program “Expertise Hour” on JurnalTV channel.
Representatives of the government expressed their recognition for the opportunity to buy electricity from Romania. Currently, over 80% of the power needed by Moldova is purchased from over the Prut. On Monday, Energocom announced that the average price per MW/h of electricity bought from the Romanian Commodities Exchange during a month was €231.
“We want the commercial relations with Romania to be more intense and the fact that we can purchase electricity from Romania is a very important step. We daily make effort to secure long-term bilateral contracts. Romania now also has insufficient capacities and imports a particular amount of electricity. But there will be more opportunities after January 1 and details are being discussed for signing long-rearm contracts. In the current emergency situation, it’s good that we can buy from the commodities exchange,” said PAS MP Radu Marian.
Representatives of the Government of Romania said the education sector is a priority for the Romanian authorities. On Monday, Romania made a donation of digital equipment for 20 Moldovan schools.
“Twenty schools from all over the Republic of Moldova will receive smart boards, laptops and multifunctional printers. We are trying to help the educational process in the Republic of Moldova to keep pace with the times in which we live, in which digitalization plays a very important role. During the pandemic, we convinced ourselves how important it is for the lessons to be held even if the students could not attend school. We are glad that we can contribute. Romania lays great emphasis on education. We believe that only through education, we can change the mentality and the paradigm. It is important to have generations educated in pro-European spirit,” said the secretary of state of the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova Adrian Dupu.
The Romanian Government’s donation for the Moldovan schools was made as part of the Education Digitization Program to the value of 3 million lei.
