The state secretary of the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova Adrian Dupu said the process of regaining Romanian citizenship is one of the most common topics in the discussions with the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. The official had a meeting with the new president of the National Authority for Citizenship of Romania Silviu Barbu, IPN reports.
Adrian Dupu said that with the new president of the National Authority for Citizenship he discussed both the new citizenship law and his view about the institution’s work as well as the strategy for streamlining the process of granting Romanian citizenship.
“I was glad to see the openness to cooperate, to offer more support to those who are waiting to regain a right, that of being Romanian citizens with legal documents. We decided to maintain a constant institutional dialogue in order to identify the best solutions,” said the state secretary of the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova of the Government of Romania.
According to data presented by the Romanian authorities in 2021, the number of citizens of the Republic of Moldova who regained Romanian citizenship increased significantly in the past 20 years and exceeded 642,000 people out of a population of about 2.7 million.
