Adrian Dupu: Citizens of Romania mobilized to help refugees in Moldova

The citizens and business entities in Romania mobilized to offer assistance to the Ukrainian refugees who found refuge in the Republic of Moldova. Adrian Dupu, secretary of state at the Department for the Relationship with the Republic of Moldova of the Romania Government, said Romania stands by the Moldovan authorities in these difficult times and will help them overcome the challenges caused by the refugee crisis, IPN reports.

On March 16, Romania delivered to Chisinau a lot of 55 tonnes of food and nonfood products intended for refugees from the 96 placement centers of Moldova. Two weeks ago, Romania offered 17 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Moldova.

“We brought food products - 20 tonnes of wheat and corn flour. We know that the Republic of Moldova stopped the export of wheat and corn and it’s clear that these products are necessary in the country. We brought them for the refugees. This was possible thanks to the assistance of a Romanian business entity. We also brought personal hygiene products, nonperishable foods, blankets, water and a large quantity of disinfectant. We coordinated the actions with the Government of the Republic of Moldova so as to know what is needed. This is all due to the Romanian citizens and businesses that mobilized in an exemplary way. To ease the burden of the Republic of Moldova in this period, we made a call to civil society, companies in Romania to help the Republic of Moldova,” Adrian Dupu stated in the program “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.

The Romanian official welcomed the amendment to the PACE resolution to recognize Russia’s occupation of the Transnistrian region. He said the whole international community knows about the illegal presence of the Russian troops on Moldova’s territory and condemns Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine.

“The PACE statement that recognizes the Transnistrian region as a territory occupied by Russia is only a confirmation as we have known this for 30 years. But it is also a signal that the whole Europe, not only the European Union, does not tolerate such actions by Russia. The whole world sees the atrocities committed in Ukraine. They bombarded not only military facilities, as they initially asserted, but also hospitals, churches, maternity hospitals. These things go beyond a classical war and represent crimes against humanity. It depends on the international community, not only on Ukraine, for Vladimir Putin to be punished for these crimes,” said Adrian Dupu.

The Commission for Exceptional Situations decided that the Ministry of Finance of Moldova will allocate 21.3 million lei to the local public authorities for managing the refugee crises. About 100,000 Ukrainian refugees are now in the Republic of Moldova.
