Adrian Cioroianu: Relation with Moldova is one of Romanian Foreign Ministry’s 2007 letdowns

The relation with Moldova, which became bellicose through Moldovan officials declarations last year, is one of the non-accomplishments of the Romanian Foreign Ministry in 2007, the Romanian Foreign Minister Adrian Cioroianu was quoted by the Bucharest press as saying, Info-Prim Neo reports. Cioroianu said that in 2008 Romanian will continue to support Moldova “with wisdom and openness” and with funds for development. “Judging by its own experience, Romania tells Moldova that the progressive approach to the European Union is the best policy,” Adrian Cioroianu said. Among accomplishments Cioroianu mentioned the inauguration of the new building of the consular section of the Romanian Embassy in Chisinau, which can now process up to 1,000 visa applications for Moldovans a day, as well as important sums of money provided as part of projects designed to support the national identity and education or as humanitarian aid. Romania offered products and assistance totalling 2.1 million euros in response to Moldova’s appeal to the international community. This year, Romania will also provide financial assistance to Moldova. For the first time in 2008, Moldova will be one of the main beneficiaries of the Official Development Assistance projects managed by the Romanian Foreign Ministry, Cioroianu said.
