Adrian Cheptonar: Russia is making every effort to oust current government

The Russian Federation aims to destabilize the situation in the Republic of Moldova and to remove the pro-European government in Chisinau from power, said PAS MP Adrian Cheptonar. According to him, the Kremlin hits the Republic of Moldova through the agency of elements typical of the hybrid war, while Ilan Shor is used as an interface in this process. For their part, representatives of the Socialist opposition said the biggest dangers to Moldova’s security come from inside not from outside the country, IPN reports.

Recently, President Maia Sandu presented the draft National Security Strategy which says that the Russian Federation and its intruders in the Republic of Moldova represent the most dangerous and persistent source of threats which can have severe effects on the statehood, democracy and prosperity of the county if it is not countered. The MP of the ruling party PAS Adrian Cheptonar said that Moscow plans to destabilize the situation in Moldova through the agency of the Shor grouping.

“The Russian Federation is making every effort to oust this government. This is their response to us. After Russia launched its war of aggression against Ukraine, they stated that they want a land corridor up to the Transnistrian region. We now see all the hybrid war elements, including the bankrupting of Air Moldova by Shor, the reduction in the number of flights, the buying of MPs who want to be bought as all the MPs of the PAS are upright. In the northern districts, they also bought mayors. They have money to purchase votes, but be sure that Shor does not offer his money. He is a petty swindler who has always been guided by persons who are more intelligent than he is. He is now the Russian Federation’s interface. No dollar or euro is his money. This is the Kremlin’s money and this is the Kremlin’s riposte to us,” Adrian Cheptonar stated in the program “Résumé” on RliveTV channel.

The MP of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists Grigore Novac retorted to the assertion that Russia is the biggest threat to national security, saying that by its anti-Putin rhetoric, the government tries to distract public attention from the defective way in which they manage the country.

“If we speak about threats to the security of the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation has nothing to do with these. It is corruption that really erodes national security. Does Putin come here to corrupt? Smuggling is another factor that erodes security. Is Putin to blame? Incompetence is another factor. Does Putin name incompetent persons to post or the PAS does this? There is smuggling in cigarettes, in arms and in everything. Does Putin do this?” wondered Grigore Novac.

Under the draft National Security Strategy, the Republic of Moldova is confronted with threats to security, including Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine and the Russian government’s ambition to create a military land corridor towards the Republic of Moldova. Russia also staged hybrid threats against the Republic of Moldova in the political, economic, energy, social, informational and cybersecurity sectors. The Russian military presence on the left side of the Nistru and crossborder crime are also mentioned among the threats to national security.
