The Constitutional Court’s decision confirming the results of the referendum is a victory of all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, either they supported the amendment of the Constitution or not, said the head of the President's staff Adrian Băluțel. According to him, the acceleration of the accession process will bring concrete benefits for every citizen. For his part, one of the leaders of "Together" bloc Alexandru Bujorean described yesterday's decision of the Constitutional Court as "good news" and voiced hope that the "narrow" result of the referendum will not accentuate the division in society, IPN reports.
The validation of the referendum result by the Constitutional Court will be followed by the completion of the supreme law with two new paragraphs. Thus, the Constitution will reaffirm the European identity of the people of the Republic of Moldova and will stipulate the integration into the European Union as a strategic objective.
"It is a victory of all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. All those who have been misled by misinformation about the European Union will see with their own eyes that the Republic of Moldova remains an independent, sovereign state. The Republic of Moldova does not sell land. These amendments to the Constitution will bring additional possibilities to all citizens and will contribute to making everyone's life better. The Court's decision is a victory for all the citizens, regardless of the referendum option. As the European integration process makes progress, the citizens will see the benefits. These can already be seen and felt in every locality. Those who now promote the narrative about destabilizations, protests, splits in society are those who support the war in Ukraine and those who do not work in the interests of this country. Nobody wants a division now. I mean the citizens of good faith," Adrian Băluțel stated in the program "Black Box" on TV8.
Alexandru Bujorean also expressed his hope that the result of the October 20 vote will not divide society and will not trigger protests. According to him, now that the Constitutional Court pronounced on the issue, all those who will promote another development course will violate the supreme law of the country.
"This is good news for all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. The most important thing is not to stop here and the articles included in the supreme law to be reflected in other normative documents. Starting from this day, promoting another course, promoting the interests of a country that does not want good to the Republic of Moldova will be a flagrant violation of the Constitution. What we need to realize as a society is that we can no longer go on with half measures. Yes, at the referendum there was also a protest vote. There was a lot of misinformation. It was also a slap to the government because this referendum was treated as a political action. We, those from "Together" bloc, talked about the risks of this referendum and about the fact that it is used as bait to increase voter turnout. But I’m sure that the people are aware that the minority in a democracy obeys the majority and there will be no protests," stated the politician.
The turnout in the national constitutional referendum of October 20 was 50.72%. Of all the electors who participated in the plebiscite, 749,719 voted “for" and 739,155 voted "against” the amendment of the Constitution.
