The supporting by the UN of the withdrawal of the Russian troops from the territory of the Transnistrian region is a historical fact and a thing wanted a lot by the current government. This is also a victory of the Moldovan diplomatic service. Such opinions were stated in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
Democratic MP Eugen Nikiforchuk said the adoption of the resolution by the UN is a victory of the Moldovan diplomatic service and also of the government because these managed to reintroduce this subject in the international agenda after many years of silence. The document was co-signed by seven states, namely Romania, Ukraine, Georgia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Canada. “We hope a lot that the dialogue will be resumed and the commitments assumed by Russia at the 1999 OSCE Istanbul Summit will be ultimately fulfilled. It should be noted that this is not an unfriendly gesture towards the Russian Federation. The stationing of foreign troops on Moldova’s territory is not incompatible with the sovereignty, integrity and independence of the state,” stated the politician.
The Prime Minister’s adviser on social matters Mircea Buga said the supporting by the UN of the withdrawal of the Operational Group of Russian Forces from the Transnistrian region is a historical fact and a thing that was awaited by the current government. “It’s good that the largest part of the countries that took part in the vote supported the resolution. The Republic of Moldova needs massive support for the withdrawal of the Russian troops from its territory,” stated Micea Buga. According to him, this support means undisputable success of the Moldovan diplomatic service, of the current Government.
The UN General Assembly on June 22 adopted a resolution titled “Complete and unconditional withdrawal of foreign military forces from the territory of the Republic of Moldova” that was proposed by Moldova. A number of 64 states voted for, 15 voted against, while 83 states abstained.
